Passing of HPS Pharmacies Founder, Bruce Heal
We are saddened to hear of the recent passing of HPS Pharmacies’ founder, Bruce Heal. Bruce passed away on Monday 29th October 2018.
Bruce started HPS Pharmacies in Adelaide in 1975 as a sole pharmacist servicing a small 28-bed nursing home. The company achieved strong progress from the beginning and earnt recognition from professional bodies soon after. In the late 1980s, HPS was asked by the South Australian Health Commission to develop a proposal to address the medication management services to country hospitals. In the mid-1990s HPS Pharmacies was selected by the Pharmacy Guild of Australia to participate in an application for a grant from the federal government for ‘The Best Practice in Health Sector Program.’ In particular, the company was asked to submit its training programme for trainee pharmacists, to be examined and submitted as a best practice benchmark for the industry. During the 2000s, HPS established a presence in Queensland, New South Wales, Western Australia and Tasmania and has grown significantly since.
Today, HPS and its network of HPS Approved Pharmacies has a presence in every state and territory and is one of Australia’s leading providers of pharmacy services to health facilities, including private hospitals, public hospitals, cancer centres, correctional facilities and veterinary clinics. This growth has come from Bruce’s vision to deliver the highest quality pharmacy services to clients, ultimately contributing to individualised patient care.
On behalf of the entire HPS business, we send our sincere condolences to Anthea and her family.
